The Spinks Family Foundation

Established in 2016, the Spinks Family Foundation was created to carry forward the generous spirit of giving that has long defined the Spinks family and the Spinx Company. Rooted in a deep commitment to community, the Foundation supports organizations that align with its mission to foster strong, healthy, and thriving communities across the Carolinas.

The Foundation has given out more than $8.6 million to more than 700 organizations.

Grant Applications

The Spinks Family Foundation accepts grant applications throughout the year and makes distributions quarterly. To qualify organizations must be a nonprofit 501(c)3 with 80% or more of funding directed at improving life in our communities. Your organization should offer facilities and programs in the communities we serve throughout the Carolinas.

Golf Tournament Beneficiaries

Each year, Spinx hosts the Spinx Charity Classic Golf Tournament. Profits from the tournament and donated to five local organizations. These organizations are selected by The Spinks Family Foundation board and are given a three-year commitment. Any organization that is currently a partner of the Spinks Family Foundation is considered for this benefit; there is not an application process.

In-Store Campaigns

Twice a year Spinx hosts in-store fundraisers for March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society. During the months of March and August we ask customers to round-up their change for these organizations. To date, Spinx has raised more than $2 million for each of these deserving groups.

Through our contributions to initiatives focused on education, health, food security, and addiction prevention and intervention, we strive to make a meaningful impact. Our goal is simple: to bring a little extra happiness and hope to individuals and families across the communities we serve.

Spinx corporate Giving

Each year, Spinx Marketing partners with dozens of organizations in the Carolinas. Whether it’s the local little league team, a neighborhood school or civic group – we’re committed to being a good neighbor. Our philanthropic focus is growing strong and healthy communities where we live, work, and play. We require a lead time of at least four weeks for all requests.

Rollover Wash Offerings

We offer two different types of Rollover car washes - Soft Brush and Touchless. Soft Brush car washes use cloth, brushes and other physical elements touching and creating friction to clean the vehicle. Touchless car washes have no physical contact and use a combination of chemicals and high-pressure water to clean the vehicle.

Large Grant Request Process
($10,000 and above)

Large gift requests of $10,000 and above will be accepted once a year. The application period will open on March 1 and close on March 30. The board will review grants, and awards will be made no later than December 31st. The grant review process may include a site visit.

We believe that nonprofits are best equipped to determine what projects fit best with our focus areas through the grant process. For large gifts, we will fund broadly in the areas of:

  • Education/Children
  • Food Security
  • Health
  • Substance Abuse/Mental Health

Grant Request Narrative*

*Required for all requests over $5,000

Please submit a narrative that explains why you would like the Spinks Family Foundation to fund your grant request. It is suggested that your narrative contain the following elements:

  • Organizational Background – A brief description of your organization’s mission, strategic goals, history, and impact 
  • Project Description:
    • A description of the demonstrated need, goals, target clients, and expected outcomes
    • A description of how your project fits with the focus areas of our foundation 
    • A description of how you will use the funds you are requesting
    • A description of the assets you will apply to your work – not just money but also people, partners, and other assets
    • A description of the expected impact of this project to include how you plan to measure and report your results

 

In addition to a project narrative, please include the following supporting documents with your request: 

  • A project budget
  • Your organization’s leadership (including Board of Directors)
  • A copy of your organization’s latest 990

Please note the following:

  •  All applications for donations must be completed and accompanied by a copy of your 501(c)(3) letter from the IRS, Department of the Treasury.
  • Past support of an organization is not a guarantee of future support.
  • Organizations are eligible for donations only once per calendar year. 
  • Unfortunately, due to limited funds, many worthwhile requests cannot be supported. Please understand that if Spinks Family Foundation cannot support your organization this year, it does not reflect any disapproval of the merits of the organization.

Small Grant Requests

Requests for cash or in-kind donations are accepted on our website on a rolling basis and reviewed quarterly by our staff. Awards will be made in March, June, September and December. Must submit a request 8 weeks prior to the event.
